Prepare a Brief
Preparing a brief is the process of assembling all of the
information we require in order to provide a quote to you
for branded merchandise or a merchandising program. Briefs
can vary from extremely specific to extremely general, examples
of each are:
- Extremely Specific - "I need a quote on 56 white
cotton Johnny Bobbin long sleeve tees with a small black
print on the left chest delivered to Brisbane by the middle
of next month"
- Specific - "Can you please give me a price on 100
or so t-shirts with a 1 colour print on the back. I don't
know the shirt colour but the print colour is red so it
needs to look nice with a red print and it has to come
in a men's and a ladies fit"
- General - "I have an event in a month and I need
some nice gifts to give to attendees. My budget is $4-$5,
there will be about 150 attendees and it's in the automotive
industry. My logo has to appear in 2 colours"
- Extremely General - "I need some gifts to put in
a membership pack to a kids club, it should probably have
our logo on it which can be in 1, 2 or 3 colours, the
kids are 8-13 years old, boys and girls, it's an ongoing
need so there is no specific deadline for delivery but
it needs to be cheap and I need the pricing by tomorrow
at 3pm.
The more general a brief is, the more products fit it and
the longer it might take to prepare. The kinds of questions
we might ask you ( and which you ought to be prepared for)
are:
- How many do you need?
- How many colours is your logo? Do you have a 1 colour
version?
- When do you need them by?
- Do you have a min/max budget?
- How are they being distributed to recipients?
- Are there specific safety standards that are required
to be met?
- Is there a particular theme the products might relate
to?
- Is there a particular marketing message the products
will be associated with?
- Is specific packaging required?
- What is the age and demographic of your target market?
- What kind of quality image would you like the product
to project?
- Are there products you have done before which you would
not want to repeat?
- Who is making the final decision on the products to
utilize?
- Does the clothing need to be a particular fabric?
- How long is the clothing going to be worn?
etc,etc
Lastly, it helps to be clear on whether you after only
a very specific solution or whether you would like us to
suggest items you may not have considered. Our consultants
spend a lot of time keeping abreast of developments in products
and technologies and can recommend unique products that
compliment your message or products better than you thought
was possible.
