Digital Printing
Digital printing is printing done directly by a computer,
generally speaking digital printing is done on paper and
is a very cost effective way to get small volumes of printed
material. More recently digital printing has developed to
allow direct printing onto textiles like flags and t-shirts
and even onto solid items like golf balls. In fact, almost
any item that can lie flat can be digitally printed, wood,
tiles, metal...even eggs. In 2007 it even became possible
to print a white ink onto a dark product, which was one
of the biggest limitations of digital printing prior to
that.
Another significant drawback of digital printing is the
weakness of colours. If rich vibrant colours are needed
on a print then digital printing is not suitable. All colours
appear flat and dull in comparison to screen printing.
However, digital printing can't be beaten for price when
artwork has lots of colours and the quantities being printed
are relatively low.
